You could actually be on to something, gwiz! It's probably an in-joke among Hollywood producers, many of whom are Masons/Occultists. Winnipeg has a special geodesic significance to them as the center of North America. Check out pictures of the Manitoba Legislative Building, and read this article.
Actually, the center of North America is just east of town. There's a very nice road sign marking the spot. And the Leg is a beautiful building if you ever get a chance to see it.

Ah, yeah.. as close as they could get it. I've seen pictures and it certainly is awe-inspiring and beautiful. I'd like to see it in person, though. It just strikes me as odd that a building of such great magnitude and beauty, and filled with so much symbolism and sacred geometrical design has to be built for legislation in, of all places, Manitoba! Surely there's a deeper significance there.
