while the movie was fantastic and shone the light on how a persons perspective can change in the face of great danger and hardship.the interplay between father and son in this bleak and barren world is worth watching the movie alone but THE BOOK is soooooo much better.
In reply to this comment by srd: For some reason I'd have expected to see a fact-based program if it's called a "documentary".
Kind of disturbing to see the people who are so against "teaching to controversy" flocking around this production that lays on the mysticism so thick that I had to turn off after 3 minutes.
LOL..you watched THREE whole minutes? and came to a conclusion about "teaching the controversy"? WTG ebert! eh../shrugs.maybe it is just me.if i watched THREE whole minutes of a two hour program i reserve my opinion due to the fact i know i have no clue wtf i am talking about.
and psychology is a science by your definition? really? while i agree with you this is more metaphysics than anything ,it does, in the beginning, deal with the nature of consciousness.something that psychology STILL has not been able to properly define. now i am not saying that psychology has not brought some great advances to the table but i wont call it a science just like i wont call a chiropractor a doctor.this documentary was simply making the statement that psychology was born from the mystery schools and historically that is correct.who WERE the first scientists? priests for the church and they attended these mystery schools.shrouded in secrecy and were the few who were literate in that age.that is another discussion though.
please understand my friend that i am not by my words defending every minutae that is proposed in this film, just that i found it interesting and some things i agree with, other things i cannot due to lack of proof and/or a reasonable explaination. but ask yourself these simple yet profoundly complicated questions: who ARE you? what IS consciousness? if you reflect on these questions truthfully and openly you may start to realize why i found this film...interesting.
i have used salvia sparingly and only in a sacred context. it is intense. it is fast. and you better be prepared beforehand and even with that you never know where you might be heading. cameras? what were they thinking?
i used to travel. i used to love to dance.. liquid..popping ..electric boogaloo.. now i would just barf up a lung. this was fantastic.glad to see enjoyment of the evolution of dance is finally being recognized.

This is not science. Interesting as it is.
I have never heard of a science called Astropsychology or whatever.
I've heard of Metaphysics
Science does not deal with ideas or emotion. It deals with observation and then subsequent experimentation.
